During March 19-25, 2017 the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador will celebrate Multiculturalism Week.
Decorate your communities with multi–coloured lights to mark Multiculturalism Week!
Immigrants have become an integral part of our communities and contribute to the economic, social, and cultural development of our province. Multiculturalism Week provides an opportunity for Government and all communities to acknowledge these important contributions. In this regard the Honourable Gerry Byrne, MHA has requested the support of municipalities in Newfoundland and Labrador in making Multiculturalism Week a truly provincial event. This objective can be achieved by:
- Proclaiming the week of March 19 – 25, 2017 as Multiculturalism Week in your community.
- Encourage residents to organize and participate in community events which foster cross-cultural understanding and value cultural diversity of all people as a strength. Examples of activities include community/neighbourhood activities such as pot-luck lunches, “meet and greet” socials, cultural school events, special guest lectures, cross-cultural recreational activities and community open houses.
- Promoting Multiculturalism Week on your websites that include details of activities in your communities.
For more information on Multiculturalism Week please contact Debbie Sheppard, Director, Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism at email@example.com. Thanks for helping us make Multiculturalism Week a great success!
If you are interested in hosting an event during Multiculturalism Week, there may be small amounts of funding available to assist you. Please complete the attached Multiculturalism Grant application form if you require support for your activities. The deadline for receipt of the complete application form is Wednesday, March 15 by end of day.
