Municipal Symposium kicks off in Gander.
May 4, 2017 – Gander, NL – Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador’s annual mid-year event, the Municipal Symposium, starts today in Gander. Close to 300 municipal leaders, administrators and sector partners are expected over the two day event.
This year’s agenda focuses on creating respectful municipal work environments, municipal wastewater treatment solutions, as well as a consultation session on regional government.
We’re thrilled to announce Terry Paddon, Auditor General along with Dr. Robert Greenwood from Memorial University’s Harris Centre as our Opening Keynote panel, reflecting on our provincial outlook. This will be followed immediately by MNL President Karen Oldford who will interpret how the province’s outlook affects the municipal sector. We’re also excited to have presenters from the Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment, Environment Canada, Coalition of Persons with Disabilities Newfoundland and Labrador, Vigilant Management, Stewart McKelvey and many others.
Honourable Eddie Joyce, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment will address delegates during the Friday lunch and will then join MNL President Karen Oldford and Professional Municipal Administrators President Brian Peckford to proclaim May 10, 2017 as Municipal Awareness Day.
For the first time MNL will broadcast live from the Municipal Symposium on 104.7 FM radio and internet radio webcast. The satellite radio set is now streaming live from the Mezzanine level of the Quality Inn Gander. MNL is encouraging all community leaders, volunteers and residents to drop by for an on-air chat about local government, to promote an upcoming festival or drop off a CD showcasing local talent.
The Municipal Symposium will take place at the Quality Inn from noon on Thursday, May 4th to noon on Saturday, May 6th. President Karen Oldford and all members will be available to the Media throughout the event.
